The distinctiveness of the State Museum, Hotwar, Ranchi, India lies in its architecture and rich collection. From its inception to its present stage, it has grown enormously including in its gamut, activities intended to bring people closer to the museum.

The sprawling museum complex houses the main building that is the Museum and Art Gallery, Ethinological Gallery, Sculpture Gallery.

The State Museum shows the birth of the Jharkhand state by displaying the sketches, sculpture and photographs from its archival collection.

The Natural History Museum has also received a facelift with the additions of the Dinosaurs of India and the Evolution of Man sections. They are a major draw among children and students. Nature in Art section is a tribute to the genius of Sardar Jogindar Singh's embroidery works.

The museum has put a thrust on its out-reach activities and educational programmes aimed at inviting participation of the school children, physically challenged people and the senior citizens besides the general public. The museum is planning to hold tri monthly mobile exhibitions for school children soon. The children are the future custodian of our environment and heritage and if they are made conscious of natural treasures and art heritage of our country from the very beginning, the country will have a brighter future. The museum is soon going to add audio tours and touch screen kiosks in the main sections to enable people to have an easy access of the collection. By constantly re-inventing itself, the museum has been a forerunner in providing exemplary service to the people.
